Poveglia, Italy

Poveglia

Ever since Leonardo told me about Poveglia and its history makes me want to visit the island.
So that's what I did.
Alright I know what your thinking, its off limits how did you get in? Well I have been searching for someone experts that know about the island and was hoping one could give me more information.
It turns out I found an expert, Mona!

We talking about the island and its history and I decided to throw in that I wanted to visit the island.
Since she is an expert and and investigator she has access to island. Perfect. I have my way in. :)
She agreed but she warned me its very scary and she is only allowed in daylight. Mona was telling me that its typical to hear screams and moans. I was getting scared but I still was going to go because I want to learn about what these people were put through. Remember it used to be a psychological  hospital.

I'm going in...

I'm back from Poveglia. And let me tell you. When they say not to go in, they really mean it.
I saw shadows and the table the mad doctor used to work on. Mona told me a lot about this island and its torturers. Mona and I both went to the boiler room.

Mona also brung along a friend of hers, who also had visited the island, Aroldo.
He mentioned from his last visit, he heard screams. Also, he showed us a picture he took and look what he found in the picture.

Can you spot the ghost?

I learned a lot about Italy and I love it! Sadly I reached the end of my adventure.
I am so coming back to Italy though! Maybe not Poveglia. ;)
I finally visited the place I've always wanted to come to.
I met some awesome people to like Mona, Leonardo and Aroldo!
I friended them on Facebook.

The Beautiful Colosseum!! & Poveglia...

It's so historic and beautiful. I honestly can't believe I went inside. I had a private tour and my tour guide, Leonardo. He mentioned that the Colosseum had over 500,000 deaths of people and a million of animals. How sad. :( Its also falling apart due to weather conditions and erosion. There have also been stories of robbers taking pieces of the amphitheatre.

Colosseum, at night.
Leonardo and I were talking about how it would feel if you were a gladiator. We imaged that it would a slow, painful death if you lost. And if you won, you would probably be missing an arm or something. Then you'll probably end up dying too from blood lost.

The Colosseum with modern day people.

While I was at the Colosseum I was thinking
that I should go see some haunted places!
I would love to do that!! Hopefully Leonardo will come with me.
When I asked he said he wasn't sure.
He doesn't like spooky places. That's fine. I won't force him.
But he was nice enough to tell me all the haunted places. I can't wait!!!

Leonardo was telling about the island, Poveglia, right off of Italy.
It was one of the most haunted places of Italy!!
The island used to be a place for war between Venice and Genoa.
Theres actually ditch in the middle of the island with burnt human ashes!
And the ditch is 15ft deep!!!

This happened while the Black Death disease was going on also.
They would take the people who are infected and still alive
and throw them in the ditch with other rotting bodies.
Even if you were a child or a baby, you are left there to die.
The island is off limits to tourist and pretty much everybody!
There are guards there, guarding the island.
People have attempted to go to the island but the
guards told them to leave immediately and to never return.

So my cousin called me to tell me about the origin for the song, "Ring Around The Rosy."
It turns out that during the the Black Plague, children would sing this song.
But if you listen to the lyrics you'll see that this is a harsh song for little kids.

Ring around the rosy
The Black Plague would give you these bumps on your skin and it would have a ring around it.

Pocket full of  posey
They would carry around roses to cover up the smells of dying people

Ashes Ashes
People would burn the bodies of dead people who had the disease. Once the
body is burned it because ash.

We all fall down
You die.

Message to Snooki; Donquellenita is Here!

I'm finally here in Venice, Italy! I absolutely LOVE this place. I can't wait to start going around to see whats in Italy. I have to say I love how Venice is mostly in water. If you need a taxi? Call a taxi boat!

I'm so excited to go see Rome! Thats the first place I'm going to visit. Did you know Rome is the capital of Italy? I'm currently looking up facts about Rome and found some pretty interesting ones. Like, in Rome, ringing bells is supposed to not make it as painful when in childbirth. Also, back in the day, women slaves were taught to fight to be gladiators.

Just so all of you know I am going to be touring around Venice, also. I'm going to Rome, Sicily, and many more if I have time. I REALLY want to visit the colosseum. I love how like half of it is gone. It looks interesting.
I really hope I can make a few friends! Especially the ones that can speak English. All my life I wanted to learn how to speak Italian. I also wanted an italian accent. I'm actually working on it! I learned how to say coffee with an accent. I heard that Jersey Shore will be filming in Italy. Snooki prepare your self because Donquellenita is coming!
